Medical Nutrition Therapy 
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is the assessment of the nutritional status of patients with an illness, diet-related condition, or injury, in order to benefit the patient's own health and reduce health-care costs. MNT includes setting goals for the patient's treatment and developing a specialized nutrition prescription that includes patient education and self-management training. MNT, which is also called therapeutic nutrition, has become an increasingly important component of integrated health-care systems.
Purpose The purpose of MNT is to identify patients at risk for major nutrition-related health problems and recommend dietary adjustments. leading to better health outcomes and improved quality of life. Who can benefit from MNT: Individuals with a variety of conditions including : Benefits of MNT: It may improve health, decrease doctor visits, and reduce medication use.
A typical MNT session may include: Review of health history and existing medical conditions Review of medications and relevant lab work Review of diet and weight history Examination of current eating and lifestyle habits Specific nutrition counseling and guidance for healthy meal planning incorporating food preferences and lifestyle habits Assistance with goal setting Educational materials to reinforce nutrition counseling MNT may be provided via phone, online, over the phone or face to face.
